Black Friday may be stealing some of the spotlight among Canadian shoppers, but Boxing Day remains an important day for retailers and shoppers alike in London.
Thousands of people filled both Masonville Place and White Oaks Mall Thursday, lured by the prospect of big deals just a day after Christmas.
Though Black Friday, the biggest day of sales in the U.S., held the day after American Thanksgiving, has risen in popularity in Canada, Boxing Day still has some things going its way, said Jeff Wilson, White Oaks Mall’s general manager.
One of them is people looking to spend some of the money they got as a present over Christmas.
“For gift-givers, Black Friday is ‘the’ day,” Wilson said. “But Boxing Day will always be big because everyone has a gift card now in their pocket that they have to go out and spend, and why not do it when things are all on sale?”
